Domaine Katsaros is a boutique winery established in 1985 in the traditional village of Krania, Mount Olympus, in Northern Greece. The twenty-acre privately owned vineyard at 750m altitude is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay and sourrounds a small, state of the art winery.
The main factors contributing to the superior quality of these award-winning wines are the regions’ mild winters, the sun blessed, yet cool summers, organic farming and limited yields (5000-6000 kilos per hectare). The white wine, exclusively Chardonnay, ferments in new barrels and batonnage is applied for seven months. It is bottled and released the spring following the harvest. The red wine, made with a combination of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot grapes, is traditionally vinified and kept in French oak barrels (50% new wood) for 12 months. It is then bottled and kept in the Krania cellars at the Domaine itself. The white and the red Domaine Katsaros wines are “vins de gardes”, with notable ageing potential.
