Avantis Estate was founded in 1994 by Apostolos Mountrichas. The winery is located in central Evia, in the village of Mytikas, just 45 minutes North of Athens.
His family owns 20 hectares of vineyards in the semi-mountainous region of Afrati in central Evia. There are cultivated Greek indigenous grape varieties, as well as international varieties that have been ideally suited to the microclimate of the region. Both the winery and Winemaker Apostolos Mountrichas, has become synonymous with the red variety Syrah (Apostolos has been described as a ‘Syrah Master’), crafting powerful, spicy, age-worthy Syrah as well as impressive aromatic whites. His role was crucial in the revival of the rare red Evian variety Mavrokountoura, exclusively vinified by the Avantis Estate. He is married to Lenga Grigoriadou (Technical Oenologist-Viticulturist) and they work together to make their dream come true; the emergence of top wines from the best vineyards of Evia. The Winery has won over 300 wine medals in International Wine Competitions (Decanter Wine Awards, International Wine Challenge, etc.) from 1994 until today. After falling in love with Santorini Assytiko, Apostolos & Lenga Mountricha started a new project in 2012 on the island by making wine and reviving and a 200-year-old historic ‘canava’ winery.
